Ken Munson Named Chief Executive Officer of Harvest
Leadership transition allows the cleantech company to accelerate growth and expand adoption of next-gen home electrification and heating technology
[Kensington, Calif., July 9, 2025] — Heating and hot water are the largest drivers of residential energy use, creating significant stress on the electric grid during peak demand. In response, Harvest, a provider of smart residential heating, cooling, and hot water solutions, is adding seasoned leadership to speed adoption of its smart thermal battery systems. Today, the company announced that Ken Munson has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Munson brings more than two decades of leadership experience across grid-edge innovation and energy technology and will guide the company’s next phase of scale and market growth. Co-founder Dr. Jane Melia, who has served as CEO since the company’s inception, will transition into a new role as Chief Revenue Officer, overseeing commercial strategy, market expansion, and revenue initiatives.
"Having spent more than 20 years on grid-edge innovation, I recognize that residential heating and hot water remain one of the untouched frontiers in building the grid of the future," said Munson. "Harvest is one of the few companies with a solution that is both effective and scalable. I look forward to working with the team to bring this technology to more homes."
The appointment comes as Harvest scales to meet rising demand for cleaner, more cost-effective residential heating solutions. The company has installed hundreds of systems across the U.S. and Canada, helping homeowners cut energy bills by an average of 30% and reduce carbon pollution up to 90% compared to traditional systems. With a patented platform that combines thermal energy storage and intelligent controls, Harvest shifts heating and hot water loads away from peak demand periods, driving grid stability and long-term energy savings in a $80 billion U.S. home heating market.
Under Dr. Melia’s leadership, the company developed and brought to market its smart thermal battery system, which integrates a high-efficiency heat pump, hot water storage, and predictive control software. By decoupling energy generation from delivery, the system reduces both emissions and utility costs while avoiding the losses and materials challenges of conventional battery storage.
“I’ve loved being both founder and CEO of Harvest, but we’re entering a pivotal new chapter that benefits from fresh leadership,” said Dr. Melia. “Bringing Ken on board allows me to focus full-time on expanding our commercial footprint and accelerating our growth. Ken’s deep operational experience and understanding of energy systems make him the right person to scale Harvest in this next phase.”
Harvest’s technology is designed to exceed the needs of homeowners, multifamily developers, utilities, and HVAC contractors. It offers unmatched lifecycle economics, fleet monitoring capabilities, and broad compatibility with existing HVAC systems. With strong traction and a growing network of installation partners, Harvest is advancing its mission to make home electrification smarter, cleaner, and more affordable.
